The Moringa Nutrition

For some time now, the plant Moringa oleifera has taken the attention of medical researchers and nutritionists, with many now considering it as one of the most nutritional and sought-after plants today. For its many health and nutritional benefits, it is currently being produced by different companies, including Zija Moringa.

Recent scientific researches have confirmed that the leaves in the Moringa plant possess a nutritional value that can outmatch most of the popular health foods today. Weighed by the gram, the Moringa leaves have four times more vitamin A than carrots; bananas, one of today’s main sources of potassium, only has a third of the nutrient that can be found in Moringa leaves. The Moringa plant also produces large amounts of vitamin C, calcium and protein, among other nutrients.

The plant, previously little known in Western countries, has long been used in Africa and Asia and is even included in dishes in countries like India, Maldives and the Philippines. It is of little surprise that the Moringa is now being dubbed as a “miracle” tree, not only for its nutritional value, but also for its medicinal properties.

The Moringa also has about 73% oleic acid (comparably, olive oil has 75% and canola 55%), which regulate blood glucose levels. This property of the Moringa is particularly beneficial for people suffering from diabetes. Oleic acid also lower total cholesterol level and raise levels of high-density lipoproteins while lowering low-density lipoproteins (known as the “bad” cholesterol).

The plant also promises to be economically viable to produce. Dried Moringa leaves can contain more than ten times the amount of specific nutrients that is in fresh ones. Once properly dried, the leaves can be easily converted into powdered leaf tablets or used as a supplement to juices.

What makes the Moringa plant more amazing is that it can thrive in environments where other plants, much less nutritious ones, can withstand. It has been estimated that a daily dose of 25 grams of Moringa leaf powder can provide a child the recommended daily quantities of the following nutrients: 272% of Vitamin A, 125% of Calcium, 71% of Iron, 61% of Magnesium, 42% of Protein, 41% of Potassium, and 22% of Vitamin C.
